An understanding of history is as vital for the statesman as it is for the Samurai who may advise them. The throes of destiny of nations and peoples never ends, and one must see the direction history has come if they are to predict the trajectory it will take. So I assiduously studied the works of cultural and historical importance. I learned the fates of the great rulers, now long gone, as well as the origins of the current leaders, here, but for how long? I studied the rise and fall of the warriors of the past so that I might emulate their success and avoid their mistakes. Ignorance in these matters is a manifest weakness.
